"The importance of building mental strength"
A year ago, I was celebrating the last day of Chemotherapy treatment when I took this photo in Clearwater Beach, FL.
As some of you might know, I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in February of 2021. Part of my treatment was four months of chemotherapy after a double mastectomy, followed by 5-weeks of radiation therapy.
It was a long journey, that many people before me have been through, of course, it is a different experience for everyone. But, it certainly changes how you approach and view life.
One thing that stands out for me and why I am telling this story is how I was able to handle the many challenges that came with the diagnosis, some beyond what you might imagine.
When presented with a real challenging situation, problem, or illness, it is difficult not to think about everything else going wrong for you.
You start thinking about every problem and issue you have, and you feel as if you are sinking into a hole dug by your negative thoughts and emotions.
The challenging part is learning to pull yourself out of it or working up the courage to face your fears.
Once you face fear, nothing is ever as hard as you think.

The best way to overcome a challenge is to take it one step at a time.
✨Most of our worry comes from fear about the future; focus on solving what's in front of you in the present moment. Today is all we have; tomorrow is an illusion.
✨You don't have to go at it alone. Surround yourself with a great support system, friends, family, and professionals. Only those people that lift you up and provide you with new perspectives.
✨Prioritize and create a systematic approach to your problem; it might sound like something you only do at work. Still, there are professional skills you've learned along the way that can help you approach every challenge with a logical vs. emotional response.
✨Take care of your mental health, always. Self-care is not an optional thing; it is something that needs to be a crucial part of your life. A strong mindset can only obtain resiliency.
✨Be self-aware of how things impact you, and eliminate what causes stress. Sometimes it might be toxic people that need to go. Work on setting boundaries that support you and your well-being and learn to say no when necessary.
Remember, you are not alone. I know you are strong and can face any challenge, but even strong people need some love! ❤️
